The Lessons of Summer

Today is the last day of summer, and I feel a bit mad.
But then I started to think and realized this summer wasn't so bad...

I can count the days I went to the beach on one hand.
I definitely wouldn't say that I got a decent tan.

But I worked real hard, earned some cash, and made some close friends along the way...
One got pregnant, one raped, one in the situation I'm finding myself in today.

A few broke up with men.
A few fell in love.
A few aren't speaking to me,
That's ok though -- it's only close friends I care enough to see.

I didn't get to go on vacation, I didn't get to go on a boat and bask in the sun.
But I'm a better person for it since my mommy and daddy aren't footing the bill for this one!

At 22 I've done almost everything someone so young could do...
I've learned mistakes and realize any situation could happen to any of you.

The summer is ending, and though some may not look at my life as great...
I wouldn't trade it in for anything in the world, I love everything right here on my plate.
